Perched Pointers: Kitchens

5 ways to refresh kitchens,
a few additions,
and simple transitions for...
newness without going nuts.

#1 Lighting: Switch your early-aughts overhead fixtures for something sleeker. Instead of the very standard 3 pendants over the island - try 2. Think carefully about placement, particularly how low they should hang.

#2 Stools: I like sleek over clunky. And, even if you like a lot of white in your kitchen, color in the stools can pack a big punch without color overwhelm or huge expensive.

#3: Paint the island to contrast with the cabinets and countertops.

#4: Eye-catching window treatments! What a difference these can make in an otherwise neutral space.

#5: Wallpaper. Does not have to go on every wall; does not have to be a major expense; easily removable when you're ready to replace it; packs a big punch.
